Kings Norton Golf Club

NCZ and Alan have really helped our business to understand what carbon impact we have been having, but more importantly are advising us on what measures we can take to reduce this. I wasn’t expecting the level of support NCZ gave; it’s been a really good experience having you there all the way. And the savings you’ve helped me achieve, for example, on my electricity bill, have been incredible…

Overview of Kings Norton Golf Club

Kings Norton Golf Club was founded in 1892 and are very proud of their history and of what they have to offer their 1000 members and visitors. Set within 220 acres of the stunning grounds of Weatheroak Hall their 27 challenging holes allow championship play on three different 18 hole courses. In addition they offer a 9 hole par 3 academy course and extensive practice areas. The Clubhouse at Kings Norton a Grade 2 Listed Hall which now provides extensive facilities.

KNGC engaged NCZ as they needed to understand where to start on their net zero journey, where emissions originate from and where costs can be reduced. They also needed to establish a targeted approach to decarbonisation to ensure maximum success.

NCZ Gold Certification. Establish complete carbon footprint of the club to drive reductions and cost savings.

Phase 2 Initial assessment and solutions (quick wins)

Using the reported baseline of emissions we were able to immediately assess and implement solutions to reduce carbon emissions and costs, including:

  • Introduce an innovative basket product for the purchase of electricity which reduced costs by £100k per annum.
  • Install a bespoke remote lighting system to control 42 external floodlights and bollard lights, with an ROI of less than one year.
  • Install solar panels with an ROI of less than 5 years.
  • Conduct a feasibility study of the golf club to create a 5-year capex plan to reduce carbon emissions year on year.

Phase 3

Carbon reduction strategy

(the mid-term targets)
Once Phase 2 is complete we use the baseline footprint to map out a tailored strategy to reduce the club’s carbon emissions on its journey to net zero. Throughout this, our NCZ team guide, and bring in relevant expertise from our supply partners as necessary.
