A Strong Start to 2026

At NCZ we have started 2026 with real momentum. As we closed 2025 we had delivered a wide range of improvements to our client portal and the internal tools used by our team. These enhancements are already being actively used across the business and are improving both operational efficiency and the level of support we provide to our customers.

While we had anticipated a seasonal slowdown over the Christmas period, activity and demand actually increased which is a strong and encouraging signal as we enter 2026 and move through the final months of our financial year.

Our continued focus on AI and automation is also beginning to deliver tangible results. These investments are helping us work smarter, respond faster, and scale our impact more effectively, benefits that are being felt internally and by our clients already.

Finally, we are delighted to share that in January our Blue Award (our free entry-level product) has seen the highest monthly uptake since its launch in 2024. Supporting organisations at the very start of their net zero journey remains a core part of our mission, and we are proud to be trusted as the first step for so many businesses beginning that transition.

We look forward to building on this momentum as we move further into 2026 and we are proud that you are on on this journey with us.

Nurturing Our Natural World

This Month’s Focus on Wetlands and Ethical Choices Globally

As February unfolds, bringing with it a sense of renewal and reflection, we at Neutral Carbon Zone turn our spotlight to the vital role of our natural ecosystems and the power of conscious choices. This month, we celebrate World Wetlands Day and explore how our daily decisions, even those made for special occasions like Valentine’s Day, can contribute to a more sustainable future, highlighting global initiatives and events.

World Wetlands Day

Guardians of Our Planet

February 2nd marks World Wetlands Day, an international observance dedicated to raising awareness about the critical importance of wetlands for people and the planet. Often overlooked, wetlands, which include marshes, fens, peatlands, and water, are among the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth. They are natural sponges that absorb and store excess water, reducing flood risks, and act as crucial filters, purifying water by removing pollutants. More importantly, wetlands are significant carbon sinks, playing a pivotal role in mitigating climate change by capturing and storing vast amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Protecting and restoring these invaluable ecosystems is not just an environmental imperative, it’s an investment in our collective future, supporting biodiversity, water security, and climate resilience, regardless of geographical location.

Did You Know?

Wetlands cover only about 6% of the Earth’s land surface but are home to 40% of all plant and animal species. They also store twice as much carbon as forests globally, making their conservation crucial for climate action. Globally, diverse wetland types, from peatlands to mangroves, play a vital role in carbon retention and protecting coastlines.

Beyond their ecological significance, wetlands also provide essential ecosystem services such as natural water filtration, flood mitigation, and support for local economies through fisheries and tourism. Their preservation is therefore integral to both environmental health and human well-being.

February Focus

Love for the Planet, Ethical Gifting for Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s an opportune moment to consider how our expressions of affection can also extend to our planet. Traditional gifting often comes with a significant environmental footprint, from resource extraction to waste generation.

This year, consider embracing ethical gifting to show love for both your special someone and the Earth.

Practical Tips for a Sustainable Valentine’s:

  • Choose Sustainable Flowers: Opt for locally grown, seasonal flowers, or consider potted plants that last longer than cut bouquets. Avoid flowers flown in from distant countries, which have a higher carbon footprint.
  • Handmade or Experiential Gifts: A thoughtful, handmade gift or a shared experience (like a cookery class or a nature walk) often creates more lasting memories and reduces material consumption.
  • Support Ethical Brands: If purchasing gifts, seek out companies committed to sustainable practices, fair trade, and transparent supply chains.
  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Consider gifts made from recycled materials, or give a gift that encourages sustainable habits, such as a reusable coffee cup or a water bottle.

Every conscious choice, no matter how small, contributes to a larger movement towards sustainability.
